The basics

  1. Open a tool from the tools list, pick a layout and fill in the form on the left.
  2. Check the sheet on the right. It updates as you type and shows how the page will print.
  3. Click Print / Save PDF.

Editing on the page

On a computer you can click any text on the sheet and type straight onto it, including the title and labels. The matching box in the form lights up and follows what you type. Parts that are worked out for you (the amount in words, the total when there are several lines, dates and the payment method) jump to their form box when you click them. The Wording section in the form lists every label, and Reset all wording restores the standard text.

On a phone or tablet the sheet is too small to type on reliably, so tapping a piece of text opens its box in the form instead.

Using it on a phone or tablet

  • The receipt is pinned to the top of the screen while you scroll the form underneath, so you always see it update as you type.
  • Tap a box in the form and the matching spot on the receipt lights up. Tap a spot on the receipt and the matching box opens below it.
  • The round arrow button in the corner of the receipt opens it full screen. It starts with the whole width of the page on screen: pinch to zoom, or tap Zoom in for a larger view you can drag around.
  • A bar at the bottom of the screen is always there with Download PDF and Print. It tucks away while you type so the keyboard is not covered.
  • Choose a layout from the row of small pages (swipe sideways to see them all). To sign, draw in the signature box with your finger.

The preview and the print buttons (computers)

On a computer the preview stays on screen beside the form while you scroll, so you can always see the receipt as you type. It opens at close to full size; scroll inside the grey panel to see the lower part of the page. Click Fit whole page above it to shrink the sheet until all of it is on screen, and Actual size to go back. Your choice is remembered. The Print / Save PDF and Download PDF buttons are above the preview and again at the end of the form.

Download PDF (handy on a phone)

Download PDF saves the receipt as a file straight to your device, with no print window. The file is a high-resolution picture of the page, so its text cannot be selected or searched. For a text PDF on a computer, use Print / Save PDF and choose Save as PDF.

Printing and saving as a PDF

Your browser does the printing, so the steps depend on your device:

  • Chrome, Edge and Firefox on a computer: click Print, then set the destination (printer) to Save as PDF (in Firefox it may read Save to PDF) and click Save.
  • Safari on a Mac: click Print, open the PDF menu at the bottom left of the print window and choose Save as PDF.
  • iPhone and iPad: tap Share, then Print. Pinch outward on the small preview to open it as a PDF, then tap Share again and choose Save to Files.
  • Android (Chrome): open the menu (⋮), choose Share, then Print, and set the printer to Save as PDF.

If the page prints too small or is cut off, set the print scale to Default or 100% and make sure the paper size matches the one chosen in the tool (US Letter or A4). Headers and footers (the date and web address some browsers add) should not appear. If they do, switch off "Headers and footers" in the print window.

My saved details disappeared

Tools save what you type in your browser, on your own device, and never on our servers. That means:

  • A different browser or device will not have your details.
  • A private or incognito window does not keep them after you close it.
  • Clearing your browser data or cookies and site data removes them.
  • Safari on iPhone and iPad can delete saved site data after about a week without a visit to the site.

Because we never receive your data, we cannot restore it. If you rely on a document, save the PDF.

To start fresh on purpose, press Clear form in the tool. On a shared computer, do this when you finish.

The paper size, currency or date style is wrong

Choose your country at the top of the form. It sets the currency, the paper size (US Letter or A4), the date style and the way amounts are written in words. You can then change the currency or paper size separately.

My signature is missing

Draw it in the signature box on the form with your mouse, trackpad or finger. It appears on the preview straight away. If you would rather sign by hand, leave the box empty and sign the printed page.

The document runs onto a second page

A notice appears under the preview when the content is longer than one page. Remove a line, shorten long notes, or turn off Two copies on one page.

Which browsers work?

Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. JavaScript must be turned on, because the tools run in your browser.
